Engineering Illuminated

When Jaguar developed the X351 XJ, creating a premium illuminated treadplate required more than simply adding a lighting feature. The system needed to deliver consistent illumination while meeting demanding automotive electronic and EMC standards.

As one of Elumin8’s first vehicle programmes, we worked as a Tier 2 partner to Tier 1 metal fabricator GSM, developing an electroluminescent lighting system entirely from scratch. A key part of the programme was the development of our EL inverter, which took two years to engineer and validate to a standard capable of passing Ford EMC testing requirements.

The resulting system was developed for the Jaguar XJ alongside the Range Rover Sport programme, demonstrating Elumin8’s ability to design, validate and manufacture specialist illuminated components as a Tier 2 partner.

The programme continues to showcase our ability to provide complete electronic development, production supply and ongoing technical support for demanding automotive applications.

The Challenge

Develop an electroluminescent lighting system from the ground up that could integrate into a premium Jaguar application while meeting the demanding electronic and EMC requirements of automotive production.

As one of Elumin8’s first vehicle programmes, the project required the development of new electronic technology capable of delivering reliable EL illumination in a production environment.

Our Solution

A complete electroluminescent lighting system designed, developed and validated by Elumin8.

Central to the programme was the development of a bespoke EL inverter. Over two years of engineering and validation were invested in developing the inverter to a standard capable of passing Ford EMC testing requirements.

Working as a Tier 2 partner to GSM, Elumin8 provided the complete electronic design and development capability, alongside validation testing, manufacturing, supply and ongoing technical support.

The technology was subsequently applied across both the Jaguar XJ and Range Rover Sport programmes, demonstrating the flexibility and scalability of the Elumin8 EL platform.

The Outcome

A production-ready illuminated treadplate system supplied across front, rear and load-space applications for both long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase Jaguar XJ models.

The programme established Elumin8 as a capable Tier 2 technology partner, combining specialist electronic engineering with manufacturing, supply and long-term programme support.

From the development of the EL inverter through to production supply, the Jaguar XJ programme demonstrates Elumin8’s ability to take complex illuminated automotive components from concept to production.
