Exterior Lighting Moves Into the Bodywork

Valeo and RESRG Automotive are extending their alliance from illuminated front
panels into grilles, bumpers, spoilers, tailgates and rocker panels.

Beyond the lamp housing

Valeo and RESRG Automotive have expanded a partnership originally focused on illuminated front panels. The
companies now plan to address a wider range of plastic exterior parts including grilles, bumpers, spoilers,
tailgates and rocker panels, with the agreement extended to China.

 

Integration at component level

The significant detail is how the system is built: Valeo’s lighting is intended to be incorporated into the final plastic
component formed and assembled by RESRG. That moves lighting closer to the body part itself rather than
treating it as a separate module added later.

 

Why suppliers are reorganising

Integrated surfaces cross traditional supply-chain boundaries. A bumper supplier, lighting supplier, electronics
provider and software team may all contribute to what visually appears to be one seamless part. Partnerships
become necessary because no single legacy component category owns the whole system.

 

The body becomes functional

RESRG explicitly talks about integrating lighting, sensing and functional elements directly into bumper and
bodywork. That convergence could eventually reduce visible component count while increasing what exterior
surfaces can do.

 

The Lux View

The most important part of this announcement is not a new lamp. It is evidence that the supply chain is
reorganising around illuminated surfaces. When light enters the moulded body component, the distinction
between lighting system and exterior trim starts to collapse.
