From screen to platform

Panasonic Avionics says its Astrova in-flight engagement system has been selected for 100 individual airline programmes across more than 30 airlines. The platform centres on high-quality seatback displays but also integrates connectivity, power and software services.

Why aviation matters

Aircraft cabins are constrained environments. Every added component has implications for weight, certification, wiring, maintenance and power. Integration therefore has a direct economic value rather than being merely aesthetic.

A lesson for vehicle seating

As cars become more passenger-focused, particularly in premium rear cabins, seats are also gaining displays, lighting, charging, sensing and comfort functions. Treating those elements as one architecture rather than a collection of add-ons can reduce duplication and improve the experience.

Personal environments

A seat is increasingly becoming a personal digital zone. Lighting can be part of that zone, responding to content, time of day, privacy or passenger preference without requiring the entire cabin to adopt the same setting.

Aviation demonstrates the value of designing the passenger environment as a system. Automotive rear cabins may follow: display, power, sensing and light integrated around the occupant rather than scattered across separate components.
